East Surrey Mines |
- Chaldon Quarry:
-- Bedlams Bank
-- Bottom Entrance
- Football Field Quarry
- Quarry Dean
These mines (or more correctly, underground stone quarries) are believed to date back to mediaeval times or even earlier. They were once of great importance, providing large quantities of building stone for many buildings in the South East. The Quarries are very old, very complex and very extensive. The local cavers ask that you treat them with the respect that they therefore deserve.
The landowner has denied access to Football Field Quarry and Quarry Dean.
The Chaldon Quarry entrances are gated. At the request of the land agents access is fully controlled by Wealden Cave and Mine Society.
Anyone wishing to visit or for further information please contact the Wealden Cave and Mine Society using the contact page WCM Contact Page and selecting "Access Request" in the drop down list.
