The Bath Stone Mines |
ST 8110 6696 |
This mine is on land owned by Sir Charles Hobhouse and the conditions of access are the same as for Brown?s Folly. The main entrance collapsed in April 1998 and remains very unstable. The side entrance is very tight and is held up with the remains of old chairs. Take care. The top of the crane at the end of the main passage is in a precarious state. DO NOT attempt to move it or it may fall on you.
There is no parking space on the main road adjacent to the mine and an agreement has been reached with the landlords of the Swan Inn, situated opposite the entrance, for visitors to use the pub car park. Cars should be parked tidily parallel to the road at the upper end of the car park furthest from the Inn. Please call on the landlord to ask for permission to park, informing him which cars are being left. If he is unavailable please leave a note in one vehicle stating you have gone down the mine and giving car numbers with estimated party times in and out. The Inn car park is chained off and not accessible when the Inn is closed. The Inn is closed on Mondays.
